Optima McDowell Mountain: A Studio of Its Own, Yoga and Pilates

Resident Life

Not every workout needs music playing through a speaker system or a row of machines humming nearby. At Optima McDowell Mountain, indoor and outdoor yoga studios sit on the rooftop sky deck as well as at grade level, so a class can happen with mountain views above or closer to home on the ground floor. A separate Pilates studio, outfitted with reformers, rounds out the grade-level fitness center, giving that practice its own room rather than sharing space with the rest of the gym.

The Space Itself

The rooftop sky deck holds an indoor and outdoor yoga studio alongside the pool, running track, sauna, and spa, giving residents a full recovery loop after a class with mountain views built in. Ground level echoes that are set up with its own indoor and outdoor yoga studio, plus a separate Pilates studio outfitted with reformers, both tucked into the fitness center near the group fitness area and outdoor training space. Between the two levels, residents can choose a rooftop flow, a grade-level session closer to home, or a Pilates reformer workout, all without leaving the building.

Why the Separation Matters

Giving yoga and Pilates their own rooms, rather than folding them into the general workout floor, means each space stays set up for its practice, so a resident can walk in mid-morning without waiting for a class to clear out. It's a small design decision that adds up over time, whether someone is starting the day with a rooftop flow or working through a Pilates routine on the ground floor before dinner.
