Evenings on the Sky Deck

Optima McDowell Mountain built its rooftop sky deck around the idea that a desert evening arrives slowly, and the deck should hold residents through the whole stretch of it, from the last lap in the pool to the last conversation by the fire. As the McDowell Mountains fade from orange to gray, the pool lighting takes over from the sun, the grill starts sending smoke up past the skyline, and the fire pits pull people in from the outdoor bar one by one.

The outdoor kitchen on the rooftop sky deck at Optima McDowell Mountain includes grilling stations, with an outdoor bar and counter seating nearby for residents who want to eat where the food is cooked and watch the mountains change color while the sun sets. Outdoor ping pong sits close enough that a meal and a game can happen in the same evening without anyone needing to choose.

Fire pits and lounge areas sit near the outdoor entertainment area, so residents can settle in by the fire while a game plays on the outdoor TVs, the flames throwing enough light to keep the deck warm and lit long after the sun is gone. The rooftop sky deck's landscaping keeps the McDowell Mountains part of the view even after the light fades to silhouette.

A movie theater, a party room with a chef's kitchen, and a golf simulator give residents an indoor option once the rooftop sky deck winds down. The dog park is covered and lit, which keeps that part of the evening routine available around the clock, and indoor and outdoor yoga studios at both the rooftop sky deck and grade level give residents a choice of where to end the evening with a class.

As the sun sets over North Scottsdale, the rooftop sky deck shifts from a pool deck to a fire pit lounge, grilling stations and an outdoor bar taking over from the loungers as the mountains disappear into the dark. Same deck, just carrying residents through a different part of the day.
